Amrita Raja, AIA
Architect, critic and educator with over 12 years of international experience.
Amrita most recently taught undergraduate architecture at Birmingham City University and has been a guest critic and lecturer at the Architectural Association, University of Newcastle, University of Reading, Virginia Tech, Parsons School of Design, and the Fontainebleau Ecole de Beaux-Arts.
Her current research explores equity and justice in the built environment. Recent work includes Say Their Names!, a proposed space for reflection, conversation and protest shortlisted as a finalist in Virginia Tech’s Call for Public Art, and The Counter-Canon Project, an archive of under-represented voices in architectural history. A writer with over 15 years experience, her essays and reviews have appeared in publications including The Architect’s Newspaper, Metropolis and The Washington Post.
The co-founder of SLAB, an award-winning design research collaborative, Amrita’s architectural work address the complex state of contemporary housing. Her professional experience spans the globe, with projects in the US and EMEA regions, and traverses scales, from private residences to mixed-use residential-led masterplans.
Amrita is a registered member of the American Institute of Architects and licensed to practice architecture by the Commonwealth of Virginia. She currently serves as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Chair on the AIA International Region Board, is a panellist on the AIA National Members’ Voice Taskforce, and is a former president of the AIA United Kingdom.
